Heartbreak Against Somonauk. Reaper's Season Ends 11-9-2

Last night the Reapers went up against Somonauk High School in the second round of regional play.  We knew going into this game that it would be a challenge.  This was a hard fought game for us tonight.  We know that Somonauk is a very skilled team.  We played as hard as we could tonight, but Somonauk just was a bit more skilled and faster on the ball then us.  It was a disappointing game to lose after seeing how far this team has come.  Our guys were pretty heartbroken to have the season end, but we can’t be anything but happy about all we have accomplished as a team this year.  We got people talking about Reaper soccer for the first time.  These guys worked hard and caused others to look and them and notice.  They broke records and played as a team.  These guys are a family and it has been great to be a part of that family this season.

Reapers Dominate Newark in 1st Regional Game at Home

Reapers Record: 11-8-2
Last night the Reapers came to the field knowing that if we were to lose this match, the season would end.  Knowing that we had beat Newark at the beginning of the season, the Reapers were ready to play.  There was a huge home crowd to get the team going.  The focus of the match was to work on what works for us as a team.  We wanted to see the ball on the sideline and crosses into dangerous positions.  That’s what we did.  All of our guys were eager to score and we finished with a new team record with 9 goals in  a single game.  This team has been a really special team.  We started from the beginning of this season focusing on excellence.  I knew we had the talent this year to be excellent and it has been great seeing our guys so eagerly pursue that.  We have broken every school record this season and our guys have been a strong unit.  In a town that pours its attention into football, it has been great to see a small group of guys succeed and begin to bring in the community as well.  For the seniors, this game was a great game to finish the play at home with.  We know that Somonauk is beatable on Tuesday and we are going to try to get ourselves ready for that match.

Pulling Out a Tough Win Against Reed Custer.

The Reapers were able to win their last conference game of the season last night against Reed Custer.  The night had some troubles from the beginning with bus problems on the way to the game.  And perhaps this picture symbolizes the type of game we had.  While expecting to win this match, we quickly found ourselves in a hole, down by two goals early.  We then had to play catch up.  Adrian Cervantes had a great shot for our first goal and Moy Villa tied things up with a nice free kick right before the end of the first half.  The second half proved that we were the stronger team as we dominated possession but could not get the ball to fall in the net.  Finally, after one overtime and part way through the second, Petey Hoti received a nice through pass from Adrian Herrera from which Petey placed the ball in the upper corner netting winning the game.  Felt good to get the win, and it was nice to see that despite the mistakes early, the Reapers can come from behind to win.

Come Back Tie Against Depue.

Last night the Reapers hosted Depue.  Last season we lost to Depue 0-5, and were hoping we would have a different result this go around.  Depue was a skilled team, but we found flaws in their defense which lead to scoring opportunities.  The first have of play was good for us, and David Hill scored off of a cross from Cesar Montiel.  The second half found us making some mistakes and having a hard time developing a flow on the field.  Omar Barraza had some excellent saves, keeping us in the game.  Also, Alex Struck came up with a huge save of his own, throwing his body in front of the goal on a shot.  We were able to tie things up in the last minute of play with a great free kick from Moy that went to Petey and ultimately Francesco with the score.

Tonight the Reapers travel to Reed Custer to play an evening game for our last conference match of the season.

Homecoming Pep Ralley

Pep Rally was tonight for homecoming.  The Reapers were introduced to the school and competed in a few competitions.  Cacho won the "Mr. Cool" contest by downing several freeze pops like it was water.  Below is a picture of the team pyramid that they had to build.

Regional Match Up Announced!!

The IHSA announced all regional matchups on Saturday.  The Reapers are matched up against Newark High School.  This is very exciting for us because we know that we can beat Newark and launch us into the second round of the playoffs.  In addition, this will be Plano's first time ever hosting a regional game.  We love playing on our field and to play a regional match at home will be great!  Hopefully we can get a large crowd to come out and watch us battle the Norsemen.  The match is set for Friday, October 7 at 4:00pm.  Make sure to come and support the Reapers!!!

Tough Times Against Peotone

Last night's match against top ranked Peotone was difficult to say the least.  There were many things playing against us last night.  Many players are nursing injuries from getting banged up from a long game schedule this week.  We also had very poor officiating, the worst we've seen this season.  This made it difficult for us since we were in constant conflict with the refs.  However, despite the excuses, we did not play well as a unit.  The guys would admit that this was not their best showing and that we are a much better team than what we should Peotone.  We still have several games left in the season, and many more chances still to improve our win record.  Time to learn, move on and keep improving.

Thanks to Mrs. Secor for taking all the wonderful shots of our team this season!!

Reapers Dominate Wilmington!!

Tonight the Reapers played in front of a big home crowd and won a commanding victory against Wilmington.  The match started out a big rough and unorganized, but once we found our rhythm there was no stopping us.  Six goals were scored in the first half, with another two in the second half.  It was good to see us be able to expose their weakness and capitalize on it.  Moy Villa set a new school record of 16 goals in a single season by scoring three goals in tonight's match.  This was a high energy game and we are proud of the team.  The Reapers current record is 8-5-1.

Tough Loss Against ACC

Last night the Reapers battled ACC in a game under the lights.  It was the Reapers that scored first with a corner kick by Moy Villa and Petey Hoti putting it in the net.  We seemed to dominate the entire game, but unfortunately we had too many little mistakes that ended up putting us behind and unable to catch up.  Despite the loss, we did play a very solid game, and I believe we can beat ACC if we are matched up against them in the regional pairings.  Time to pick our heads up and earn a victory against Wilmington.

Reapers Topple Yorkville - Set New School Record of 7 Wins!!

This was a simply outstanding match for us today.  It was nice to be able to play at home where we feel more comfortable.  After a good team dinner last night, our squad was ready to play.  We were behind at the half, but our guys came back.  We were fighting for a school record of 7 wins.  Today we were able to get that lucky number 7 win.  Our defense played very well, catching Yorkville offsides many time.  Omar Barraza had a big game for us in the goal, making some crucial saves that kept us in the game. Edgar also had a great service on a fee kick to get us the first goal.   Moy and Adrian Cervantes both had great outside looks at the net on offense and were able to deliver for the second and third goals. Great Game everyone!!

Victory Over Sandwich! Reapers Record 6-4-1

Tonight we faced our conference rivals, the Sandwich Indians, for their homecoming match.  There was a lot of energy leading up this game, and it is a game we have been talking about all season.  We had some rough spots in the game, and it wasn't our best performance but we still got the win!!  The Defense was solid and Goalie Omar Barraza recorded his 5th shutout of the season.  Moy Villa scored 3 goals in the game, giving him a total of 12 goals on the season.  Both Petey Hoti and Adrian Cervantes picked up assists on the Villa goal.  The Italian Wonder, Francesco, also scored on a penalty kick.

The Reaper JV also racked up another win against Sandwich tonight!  James Ohara and Wambugu Wambugu both scored goals for the reapers giving the a 2-1 win.  Luis Rodriguez assisted the Ohara goal.  The JV played very well and moved the ball well around the field, not giving the Indians many chances on the ball.

Great game everyone!!

Herscher: Tough Game But Well Played. Reapers 5-4-1

Yesterday's match against Herscher was a hard fought match for us.  Overall I would say this was a very positive game for us.  We knew coming into this match that Herscher was at the top of the conference.  We played very well.  We did let up two goals in the first half, in the last 8 minutes of the half.  Those goals were silly mistakes on our part.  Their 3rd goal came early in the second half from a penalty kick.  We never knew who the foul was on or what the penalty was, but sometimes you just are unlucky.  After that, we played Herscher to an equal possession game.  It was very impressive to see us be able to play stride for stride with this team.  I think it is a testament to our team and the progress that we have made this season.  We are now looking on towards Thursday where we will face Sandwich.  This is a big game for us and we want to be able to win big!!

Big Win Against Westmont!! Reapers Move to 5-3-1

The Reapers came up with a impressive victory against Westmont last night at home.  The Reapers scored 5 goals, 1 in the first and four in the second half of the game.  Our play was very quick yet controlled.  It was good to see the team be intentional about their play and about scoring goals.  This is the third consecutive win for the Reapers as well as the third consecutive shutout, setting a new school record.

Goals were scored by  Adrian Cervantes (2), Adrian Herrera, Petey Hoti, and David Hill.  Luis Rodriguez, Moy Villa, Adrian Cervantes and Petey Hoti all earned assists.

Goalie Stats:
Omar Barraza, 4 saves, 80 minutes, 3rd shutout

Hinckley History!!

Tonight the Ladies Reapers did battle with the Hinckley Royals and what a game it was!  When this program first started, Hinckley was our first game ever.  We lost to them that night 0-14.  Since then we lost to them every time but large amounts.  Tonight we tied them 0-0!  This was awesome.  Our defense as a team was simply fantastic.  We were communicating as a team.  We also were able to present ourselves as an offensive threat to Hinckley which has never happened before.  Our goalie came up big tonight making some great saves, sometimes in one on one situations.  Very very proud of our team tonight on this historic night.  When the game ended the ladies felt like they had won the game, and in a sense they did.  They were able to prove to themselves and this team that they do have what it takes to compete.  I see a lot of potential in this team.  We still have a lot of work to do, but tonight we enjoy our hard work.

Mendota Recap

Tonight the Lady Reapers battled Mendota.  It was a very windy, very cold match.  Last year, Mendota beat us 0-7.  We knew they were a good team, but the team really relied on one key player for their offense.  Tonight Mendota's play again filtered through their key player, which we had a hard time shutting down.  The final score of the match was 0-5, and that one player was responsible for 4 of their goals.  However, despite the score, I walked away from this game proud of our girls because we possessed the ball tonight.  We were intentional about passing and creating offensive possession.  I saw a lot of good things that I had not seen from our girls in prior matches which really got me excited.  So, girls, do get down, be proud of the progress we made tonight.  The girls worked very hard and I am proud of their efforts tonight.

The JV battled on to a victory, beating Mendota 1-0 in their match.  Again the jv were able to create many good opportunities on the offense which allowed Claudia Macias to put one in the back of the net.  Way to go girls!!

First Game Week Recap

During the past week the Lady Reapers began their competitive play.  The varsity played three matches as well as the jv team.  The weather was very cold and somewhat windy throughout the entire week, not exactly the best soccer weather.  Despite that the ladies did pretty well.  Varsity lost to both Grant Park and ACC 0-2.  In these games our defense was very good, but we struggled to create offensive opportunities.  Against Yorkville, a 1-1 tie, we were able to play much better offensively.  We were able to create several scoring opportunities and finally able to capitalize on one of them with Amanda Corral scoring the season's first goal.

The jv team also saw some good things.  They also lost to Grant Park and Yorkville, but again we saw some good things there.  Passing and possession were pretty strong in these matches.  The jv team picked up their first win of the season on Saturday as they played Spring Valley Hall.  They won 3-2.  All three goals were scored in the 2nd half, 2 by Claudia Macias and 1 by Mara K.

Both the varsity and the jv team's have a lot of inexperienced players on them.  However, what we have seen in the past week makes us hopefully for the rest of the season. There are many good things that we can build upon in the weeks that follow.

We have handed out this year's spirit pack order forms.  All forms are due by March 10th.  There is a lot of variety in what you can order this year and we are very excited about it.  We encourage parents and family to order something also so we can get as many fans in Plano Soccer gear as possible.  You can find the link to print off the order form to the right in the "Player Forms" section.

Players will also have to purchase team socks as part of their uniform.  Socks are $12 which will give you the two pairs needed.  That is not included on the spirit pack order form, so make sure you pay Coach Sperry for your socks.
